PALLIATIVE AND END OF LIFE CARE

Palliative care at home allows you to stay in the place you feel most comfortable, surrounded by memories and the people you love. With one-to-one support from a compassionate carer who is experienced in palliative care, you can have specialist support and symptom relief from serious illness, whenever it is needed.

What is palliative care?

If you or your loved ones are living with a terminal illness, you will usually have

treatment and care which focuses on:

  •  Managing symptoms
  • Offering emotional, spiritual and psychological support
  • Offering practical support, including things such as planning for the future or getting equipment.
  • Giving you a good quality of life.

This type of holistic care, which looks after every part of you, is called palliative

care. Palliative care aims to make sure you feel supported and comfortable, rather

than cure the illness. It is also sometimes called supportive care.

Is palliative care the same as end-of-life care?

No. Although it can include end of life care, palliative care is much broader and can

last for longer. Having palliative care doesn't necessarily mean that you're likely to

die soon – some people have palliative care for years.

End of life care offers treatment and support for people who are near the end of their

life. It usually starts to be offered to those who are thought to be in the last year of

their life. The aim is to help someone be as comfortable as possible in the time they have left, as well as making sure that practical things such as Wills or wishes are sorted out.

Although some people choose to get palliative care at an inpatient hospice or a residential nursing home, having access to palliative care in he comfort of one’s own home is becoming an increasingly common alternative. A growing number of people are opting to receive palliative care in the privacy and familiarity of their own homes because it is important to them to stay in the setting in which they

are happiest. We at Care Pilot, are well qualified to support those receiving such care.

Care Pilot’s Palliative Care team comprises of carers who collaborate with the individual, their families

and treating physicians. Our team offers additional support for you when you require it, help you manage your illnesses and anxiety, and provides support for you and your loved ones.

We are there for you at every step of the journey to offer you and your family support.
